Which four players do AS Roma need to sign this summer?

Everybody’s been busy this transfer window in Serie A, even mid table clubs are making headlines with some marquee signings being made. Inter bolstered their already strong backline with the likes of Joao Mirando from Atletico, Jeison Murillo and Martin Montoya. Their counterpart and bitter rivals AC Milan also did some of their own shopping this year, luring Luiz Adriano, Carlos Bacca and Andrea Bertolacci over. Every team has been rather busy, minus one team; AS Roma – the Giallorossi are coming off another stellar yet abysmal season, fans of the Giallorossi want to see their squad being bolstered juristically, I take a look at the five players Roma should look to sign this summer transfer market.

LB/RB/LM – Matteo Darmian

Currently playing for Torino, Darmian has the ability to literally play anywhere on the defensive line, under Giampiero Ventura, Darmian has even featured in middle of the defense in Ventura’s coveted 3-5-2 formation. Now were seeing Darmian deployed as a left mid most times, but when a back four is being used, you know this guy is definitely the man you want back there. Darmian has a great read on the game and if you combine that with his great tenacity, Darmian is definitely somebody the Giallorossi have lack on defense since the era of Cafu. Seeing as how the roman born Alessandro Florenzi has been a revelation on RB, Darmian would be able to play in his comfortable role of LB. Recently actually, Roma put in a bid for this talent. Although 25-years-old Darmian still costs a hefty minimum amunt of €20 million if Roma to pry him away from el Toro. The Giallorossi put in a double swoop bid of €27.5 million for both Darmian and Bruno Peres, Manchester United is also enquiring the Italians services and I think this will go down to a bidding war for him.

GK – Iker Casillas

Unwanted and no more love for the Spanish international, 33-years-old and already the fans of Madrid are demanding young Spaniard David De Gea who currently plays his football out in Englands top flight for Manchester United. Roma is rumoured to be heavily interested in him and give him the starting birth he clearly deserves. Casillas’ agent went out to say this

‘Roma are a top team and Casillas is flattered by their interest,’ Cutropia told LaRoma24.it.

‘Roma are one of the greatest clubs in Europe. We really love the city and the passion of their fans.’

This signing would benefit both parties not just Roma for having a stellar keeper, it would also revitalize what some people believe is a finished career, and besides, we all know King Morgan De Sanctis is approaching the end of his career in about a year or two and somebody needs to take the helms at Roma now.

LW – Nicola Sansone

Nicola Sansone of Sassuolo is the ideal man for the Giallorossi to ponder. Sansone can score just as well as set up and his off the ball movement is exactly what Rudi Garcia looks for in a player. Born in Munich, Germany, the 23-year-old has had 30 appearances and notched 5 goals and 4 assists, those numbers don’t speak very well for him but it was enough to get a call from Italy coach Antonio Conte, Nicola Sansone would be a good replacement for Ljajic if they were to include him in a deal to bring in a player, or even a good replacement for Gervinho if he ends up leaving the roman outfit.

ST – Edin Dzeko

The Bosnian international doesn’t get much playing time under coach Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City and clearly is Sergio Aguero’s backup, keep in mind Stevan Jovetic is also there so, the top spot at the Citizens is a difficult one. AS Roma are trying to offer him a new home and a good amount of first team action, after obviously a few players are offloaded there is no doubt in ones mind that Dzeko would be starting and would alternate with club icon Francesco Totti. Roma are trying to offload Seydou Doumbia after only a 6-month stint at the club and their also looking for a new home for young Italian striker Mattia Destro, who wont be staying at Milan the coming season. Club legend Giannini stated too that Edin Dzeko would be a great signing for the club because of Garcia’s tactics.

Bosnia-Herzegovina teammate Pjanic fueled speculation that Dzeko will be playing in Serie A next season, telling Romanews.eu:

“Dzeko would run to Roma and the wages won’t be a problem, as he’d adjust them.

“It all depends on the club.”

Why not Roma? You would maybe just become even stronger with these acquisitions, but everyone has their own say, be sure to provide your own in the comments section on the top 4 players Roma should sign or find me on twitter @joegenovaa
