Rain Check: Men ignore their women for Euros

As the nation becomes more and more immersed in the UEFA European Championships and with Roy Hodgson’s much debated decision about allowing England WAGs to travel to France, sex and football have never been far apart.

Whilst many debate whether England players having sexual relationships during the Euros will enhance or hinder the team’s performance, a new study has revealed that the performance of Roy’s boys is of paramount importance to the sexual performance of England fans watching the championship at home.

The new survey of 2,000 football fans, facilitated by LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor, suggests that if England can perform well in the next round, the country’s men will score in the bedroom too. This new research has shown that when asked if their team’s performance would hinder or enhance their own sex life, 88 per cent of England fans believe that they will see a considerable improvement in the bedroom as a result of England continuing to progress in the competition.

To help men better forecast their expected libido during the Euros; the Online Doctor has launched a Euro Sex Formulator which allows men to compare their expected bedroom performance against other Euro fans.

Whilst the majority will be looking for an England win to improve their own performance in the bedroom, 65 per cent of fans do not think that Roy Hodgson imposing a sex ban would enhance their team’s chance of winning. When asked for their opinion on whether WAGs should join players, 86 per centbelieve that they should be allowed to accompany their other halves.

As for their own partners, 1 in 4 fans admitted that they have spent more time watching Roy’s boys than spending time with their partner whilst 40 per cent have attempted the ultimate juggling act of watching the Euros and seeing their other halves equally this summer. Women should be prepared for a sustained leave of absence from their partners this summer, with over a quarter of men concerned about neglecting their significant other during the Euros, 40 per cent expecting to watch over half of the 51 Euro fixtures and 1 in 10 aiming to watch every game.

It’s not just time with partners that men are willing to sacrifice over the coming days, with over a third of those surveyed willing to give up sex or drinking for the duration of the Euros in return for seeing their team lift the trophy on July 10th. When it comes to the championship itself, 88 per cent admit that their libido is less likely to improve if England lose and 35 per cent of men have in fact admitted to using a major football championship as an excuse to avoid scoring in the bedroom. A poor England result in the last 16 will also see a poor result for fans in the bedroom, as nearly 10 per cent of men will avoid any kind of sexual activity with their partner if a Euro match doesn’t go their way.

Equally, Brewer’s Droop – the inability to get an erection due to excess alcohol intake – could also be an issue with almost 60 per cent of those questioned planning on exceeding the recommended daily limit of alcohol during any given Euro 2016 fixture. With a third of men admitting to having experienced erectile dysfunction and worrying about it regularly, it seems that women may have to be patient this summer.

Clinical Director for LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor, Amanda Dorkes, commented: “As each football tournament begins, fans love to get behind their team and celebrate with their mates. However, as men admit to drinking more and exercising less (only 50 per cent will do more than ten hours exercise during the month) there is a threat to their performance in the bedroom too. Our Online Doctor service provides a free ED assessment for men who think they may experience erectile dysfunction, helping them find the most effective treatment for them.”

LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor has launched an online ‘Euro Sex Formulator’ calculator to give men the chance to find out how the Euros may impact their own sex life.
