Ashley Cole begins his American adventure with LA Galaxy

Before he joined Roma in 2014 Ashley Cole was linked with a move to the MLS but famously said he was ‘not ready to relax on a beach yet’ – when he was officially unveiled at LA Galaxy he insisted he has not joined them to ease of in the twilight of his career and wants to win trophies during his time in America.

Ashley Cole is someone who has won plenty of trophies during his career, the Premier League on three separate occasions, the Champions League, the Europa League and the FA Cup seven times – more than any other player in the history of the famous tournament, so when he says he wants to win trophies you have to believe him.

His contract with Roma was terminated by mutual consent last month, which brought an end to a disappointing spell in Italy for the former Chelsea and England star. His American adventure began last night at the StubHub Center against Mexican side Tijuana and Cole certainly impressed before he was substituted after 58 minutes.

Having not played any first team football for several months Cole looked surprisingly sharp and put in plenty of trade mark runs down the left flank to assist his new-team mates, which includes ex-England team mate Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane.

It’s been well publicised the pay-cut that Cole has taken to join LA Galaxy from Roma but for someone with such a long-spanning successful career it will surely be good to be back playing first team football. LA Galaxy have two more pre-season games before the official MLS season kicks off so no doubt Cole will be back to full fitness in no time and looking to add a couple more trophies to his collection by the time his stay in America comes to an end.
