At this early stage of the season it is clear that as good as Barcelona is they need to make some changes to their team when the transfer embargo is lifted from the club in January 2016. Despite all the talent in the Barcelona squad the injury to Lionel Messi currently makes them look very short in depth and stands out the weaknesses in the team. Despite appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for the need of registering Arda Turan, their appeal failed and they look short in depth within the squad. Luis Enrique all of a sudden is getting criticism for not adding some of the talented younger players in his registered squad and providing more options for the club. The recent two defeats in three La Liga games is very much a bad run for Barcelona, though the added importance and pressure on Neymar shows how quickly pundits and fans are to look to another star to carry the burden which Lionel Messi has done for all these years. Despite having Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal waiting to come into the equation in January this period shows that Barcelona do need to make some other improvements to their squad.

Shkodran Mustafi

The Valencia and Germany defender is currently one of the most highly sought after defenders in Europe, with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United also rumoured to be chasing his signature. Mustafi over the last year and half has been one of the most consistent defenders in La Liga and on the international stage. His reading of the game in the heart of a defence is top class and covers his back four superbly well. Last season saw him form a formidable and highly competent partnership with Otamendi who has since joined Manchester City. Mustafi would be the perfect defender for Barcelona to sign in terms of they need a defender who likes to defend, the question marks over this Barcelona team over the last number of years and more so this season is the defence and the German international would surely be a better alternative than injury-prone Thomas Vermaelen and French defender Jérémy Mathieu. This move would also add the pressure on Gerard Pique to perform at a top level constantly which he has needed for a while.

Nolito

The Celta Vigo forward has been linked with Barcelona for over a year now. With Arsenal also rumoured to be chasing the Spanish international Barcelona would really have to make a strong move for their former player. Nolito enjoyed a great season last time around with Celta Vigo earning rave reviews from media outlets in Spain, and with his start to La Liga this season it looks like being another strong year. Nolito would purely add more depth to the Barcelona attack, he wouldn’t be regarded as starting eleven player to dislodge the attacking trio of Luis Suarez, Messi and Neymar, but he would certainly be a fantastic alternative to bring on and help rest these top players.

Philippe Coutinho

With Liverpool set to appoint a new manager the last news that the club and fans will want to hear is that Barcelona want to sign their Brazilian star. Signed for eight million, Barcelona would consider a bid of twenty-five to thirty million enough to get the Brazilian international. Barcelona could consider Coutinho as the possible successor to Andres Iniesta as he is starting to hit the twilight years where he is struggling to complete a full ninety minutes. More importantly he would add depth to yet another light part of this squad, with Rafinha also currently side-lined through injury. Coutinho and Neymar have been rumoured to say how much they want to play together at club level and the only way this would look possible is if Coutinho joined Neymar at the Nou Camp. This would be a massive step up in the career of the young Brazilian and a move is strongly expected by the Catalan club in January.
