England striker Andy Carroll is the worst transfer deadline day signing in Premier League history, as this infographic from leading fantasy football site Football Fanager shows.

Panic buy Carroll, who moved to Liverpool on deadline day in January 2011, cost the Reds a staggering £5.83 million a goal as he only scored six times in the league after his transfer from Newcastle.

Fernando Torres, who cost Chelsea £50 million when he moved from Liverpool on the same day, weighs in at £2.50 million per goal, and Robinho’s £32.5 million move to Man City from Real Madrid in 2008 eventually worked out at £2.32 million for each of the 14 times he hit the net.

At the other end of the scale, Wayne Rooney is the smartest piece of deadline day dealing. The Man United striker is valued at just £0.17 million a goal since his move to Old Trafford, and is the only player on the list still at their respective club.
