Fans Player Of The Year Raul Meireles enjoyed a solid debut season in English football. Whilst winning the Fans Player Of The Year award in an ESPN poll may have surprised many neutrals he was a key figure in Liverpool’s revival under Dalgliesh especially with injuries to key players such as the talismanic Steven Gerrard . A talented box to box midfielder he has a keen eye for goal chipping in with 5 goals this season as well as having a good range of passing.
However the rumoured signing of Charlie Adam from Blackpool will mean he will most likely be squeezed out with AC Milan and Juventus said to be keen on bringing the Portugal international to Italy. He would no doubt be a good signing for any team who acquires his services.
Liverpool will already have a job on their hands finding room for Gerrard, Suarez and Carroll in the attacking positions and it appears Meireles will be sacrificed in order to allow young Spearing to progress as well as to make room for Adam with Lucas occupying the holding midfield slot. It should also be noted that as a Hodgson signing, Dalgliesh did not bring him in and with the squeezing out of Konceshky and possibly Maxi also Dalgliesh may wish to stamp his own imprint onto the team.
The summer will prove interesting for Liverpool fans as they attempt to spend big in order to get back into the Champions League.
