Chelsea have sold Ramires for £25 million, could complete the sale of Loic Remy away from the club and have also reportedly had interest in Gary Cahill. Yet the club are unwilling to sell the England international, even though he has fallen behind the likes of John Terry and Kurt Zouma.
Cahill was signed for £7 million from Bolton and has won all there is to win with the club. He’s never really looked a top class player and managed to overtake David Luiz in the pecking order purely because he was more reliable. On the grand stage though he hasn’t replaced the brilliance of Ricardo Carvalho and the loss of his place in the team at a time when Chelsea are very bad at defending is testament to his fall from grace.
Whilst he did help Chelsea win the Champions League in 2012 he is not a top class defender and never has been. Chelsea would be better off cashing in on Cahill and signing someone younger and of higher quality who can be a long term partner for Zouma.
The odds are he’ll stay but for those who fancy a punt they might be checking the odds again at 888 casino and the like. But who knows. Cahill’s days are definitely numbered at Chelsea.
