Can West Ham do the impossible and finish in the top four?

The Premier League season so far has been an incredibly surprising one. With Leicester currently second in the table, and previous champions Chelsea towards the bottom, it is turning out to be one of the most exciting and unpredictable seasons for years. Another team that have been on a winning streak are West Ham United, who are currently sixth in the league. There is still a long way to go until May, but based on their current performance the Hammers are looking likely to finish close to the top.

Manager Slaven Bilic has led the team from strength to strength since taking over in June 2015. A string of 5 draws in a row after a winning start to the season has left West Ham somewhat forgotten in the race for the title, however they then went on to win their last 2 games, the latest being 2-0 last weekend against Liverpool. Where many teams players this season have appeared to ‘turn against’ their manager, West Ham United are in a complete contrast to this, with Bilic seeming to be very popular with his team. His ability to get the best out of his players, and also by rotating the squad in the games has meant that the players have been eager to perform for him, and the results have shown on the pitch. Even with a string of injuries to some of the top named players such as Sakho and Payet, this still has not seemed to have put a dampener on a team that still have the ability to play well together whoever is chosen to play.

The next two Premier League games are both away matches, to Bournemouth and then Newcastle. They would hugely benefit from getting some points at these games, to build confidence before the following match at home to Manchester City.

There are many exciting times ahead for the club, the main one being their move to the Olympic Stadium later this year. The move will have great potential for them, as it will be globally reported and gives them a real opportunity to grow their support base.

If their performance so far this season is anything to go by then West Ham do stand a good chance of finishing in a high position. However, it does still seem unlikely that they will manage to finish in the top 4, as there are still so many other dominant teams that are fighting for points. If they can get a place in Europe then this would be an incredible achievement, and there are definitely exciting times ahead for this club.
