Can Remi Garde’s Aston Villa survive relegation?

Aston Villa are currently rock bottom of the Barclays Premier League table with 4 points from 11 games , it seems fans had split opinions on the departure of Tim Sherwood but Remi Garde has been identified as the best man to save Aston Villa and take them forward. Villa have been in this situation for far too many years when you consider the size of the club, however Villa’s owner Randy Lerner has seemed disinterested since Martin O’Neil’s reign when his plan to qualify for the Champions League was unsuccessful. Since then Villa have constantly sold their best players such as Ashley Young , James Milner , Gareth Barry and more recently Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke if you constantly lose your best talent you will only go in one direction , this has shown in recent years for Aston Villa as they haven’t finished in the top half since 2011. I believe the sale of the club will happen next summer but Lerner may not get the price he desires.

So what’s the answer? Firstly it would help if Villa fielded their best players , it seems key players are being left out again and again , the majority of Villa fans want the likes of Carles Gil (Most creative player) Jordan Ayew and Jordan Amavi to be played each game. Also the missing man Libor Kozak , who was Villa’s stand out player in pre season hasn’t featured at all this campaign , many Villa fans will hope he is given a chance by the new boss Remi Garde. There are still players who need game time to establish themselves at the top level , the likes of Idrissa Gana and Jordan Veretout have shown glimpses of what they can do but they need a run of games to improve like the rest of the foreign players who have recently came into the club.

Looking forward Villa will only get stronger this season , as their new squad members will adapt to the pace of the league and they will have players coming into the team like Jores Okore who has been missed at Villa Park as Joleon Lescott has made a poor start to his career at Villa. In January I believe it is vital Villa recruit a new goalkeeper as Brad Guzan is a weakness in their starting line up , keepers like Tom Heaton and David Ospina are rumoured to be available at reasonable prices so they should be considered. I think Jordan Ayew will be vital to Villa this season he will only become stronger as he develops , a huge percentage of fans would prefer him to be starting over the aging Gabriel Agbonlahor.

If Villa are still struggling for goals by Christmas I think they should strongly consider Charlie Austin who has been a top goal scorer throughout his career. It is vital Villa sustain their ever present record because next season their players should be playing to potential as they would’ve had time to jell , in addition the TV money is huge next season and is something Villa can’t afford to miss out on because it may mean they’d slide behind , as it would likely result in their best player’s leaving.

Who is Remi Garde?

Remi Garde played for Arsenal as a player so he knows the culture of England and he has had 3 years of managerial experience with Lyon where he was successful in a transitional period as he finished 4th , 3rd and fifth and won both the in Coup de France and Trophée des champions. He was praised for bringing through young players who are still vital for Lyon today. Arsene Wenger has also praised Remi Garde on numerous occasions and believes he is a top coach from his own experiences.

Remi has 27 games to save Villa from the drop , 81 points are available and Villa need 36 of them to reach the “magic 40” total (10 wins and 6 draws from 27 games , Can Villa do it?). One thing Remi does have as an advantage is he can communicate with the French speakers which will help him get his point across to all members of the team clearly , which Tim Sherwood struggled to do.

Villa have seemed to lack fitness over the last few seasons as they seem to get tired in the last 20 minutes which shows in the amount of late goals they concede , however they are going to bring Robert Duverne back to the club who is known as a “Ruthless” fitness coach so the players should return to full fitness which will have a big impact on Villa’s second half performances.
