Chelsea are languishing in 16th in the Premier League. Four defeats in eight games is one more defeat than Chelsea suffered over 38 last season. The crisis is real. Chelsea are struggling and need to turn things around. Many papers are speculating about a dressing room mutiny. If this is the case further points being dropped is a serious issue.
Can they afford to lose again? Probably not. Five defeats from nine games goes from a crisis into a catastrophe. Chelsea haven’t endured that good form at home, losing of course against Southampton, Their home form has been poor. The 2-0 victory against Arsenal was the only home victory this season and that was against nine men. Hardly an impressive feat.
The side need to start finding their form and it’s difficult to say whether Mourinho can get away with a defeat in the context of a so called player mutiny, even if the media are overstating any potential fall out. Mourinho is a manager who usually commands fierce loyalty from his players.
If they do not win then people will continue to play up the idea of a fall out. A victory though will at least briefly quell that idea and perhaps show a sign of unity.
