Chelsea’s goal scoring problems have been well documented this season, even if Diego Costa has scored six in six under Guus Hiddink. The Brazilian born forward is not without his fitness issues and his back-ups have also been injury prone and out of form. Loic Remy is probably on the way out and nobody would be that shocked if Radamel Falcao didn’t play for Chelsea again.
The result is that Chelsea are on the brink of bringing in Alexander Pato but today have been linked with a move for former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie. RvP scored 48 times in 86 appearances for United but at 32 his form tailed off somewhat towards the end of his career and he never really hit the heights of his debut season in which he helped the club to the title. A lack of pace was problematic and he won’t offer a like for like for Costa. All in all it’s unlikely to be a very good move for the forward or the club.
